How it works
Balanced mode finds and re-compresses the images embedded in your PDF while leaving every page's text and structure untouched. Maximum mode instead renders each page as a single image, which reaches almost any target size but permanently removes selectable and searchable text.
Your document is processed entirely on your device and is never uploaded anywhere.
Frequently asked questions
- Will Balanced mode always shrink my PDF?
- Only if it contains compressible images. A text-only PDF, or one whose images are already small, is reported as already optimal rather than falsely claiming a reduction.
- Why would I lose selectable text?
- Only in Maximum mode, which flattens every page into a single compressed image to reliably reach very small target sizes. You'll always be warned about this before it runs.
- Is this safe for confidential documents?
- Yes — nothing about this PDF is ever sent anywhere. All compression happens locally in your browser.
